We have recently carried out a major project to make safe a large area of external glazing at West Orchards Shopping Centre in Coventry.
The 20 year old external glazed canopy on Smithford Way had severely deteriorated through ageing and weathering, becoming a serious health and safety issue due to incidents of falling glass.
Following consultations between West Orchards Shopping Centre and Coventry City Council, we were commissioned by West Orchards Shopping Centre, to dismantle the canopies as a two phase project, the initial phase being the removal of the high level glazing which comprised of 220 individual glazed panels.
The complex operation required our team to work throughout the night in order to avoid any disruption to the retail trading within the shopping centre, especially at this busy time in the run up to Christmas. Access was provided by scissor lifts and via one of our versatile 22m truck mounted platforms.
West Orchards lies in the heart of Coventry and is the city’s largest indoor shopping centre, offering a range of high street retailers alongside independent outlets.
The completion of phase one paves the way for our operatives to proceed with phase two to dismantle the canopy framework and structure in the new year.
